Raul Sanllehi reveals Arsenal’s main target for the current season

Arsenal’s head of football Raul Sanllehi has said that manager Unai Emery needs to guide the club to Champions League football following the spending done during the summer transfer window.

The Gunners went on a summer spending spree to land six players and the likes of David Luiz, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe have already been regulars in the Premier League.

Speaking at the Arsenal Fan Forum on Thursday, Sanllehi revealed that Emery has been aided with a much better squad from the previous season and the club expect him to guide the club back to the Champions League.

“We said to Unai that we just missed out on qualifying for the CL last year, but this year with a stronger squad, we expect you to do that,” he was quoted as saying by The Mirror.

Emery could not achieve the Champions League objective last term as the Gunners failed to make the top four while losing embarrassing to Chelsea in the Champions League.

In the current season, they are in the third spot with 15 points after eight games played and Emery’s position will surely come under scrutiny, should the club fail to qualify for the elite competition this term.

Emery will be out of contract with the Gunners next summer but the board have the option of extending his stay for another year, should they wish to do so.
