Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard has revealed that Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James could feature for the Blues during the League Cup third round tie against Grimsby Town.
Callum Hudson-Odoi picked up a serious Achilles injury during the backend of the previous season and the resultant surgery thereafter has meant that he has yet to make his bow under Lampard.
Meanwhile, James, who has yet to make his Blues debut, sustained an ankle problem while representing the England Under-20 side at the Toulon tournament in the summer but he appears on the cusp of a comeback.
Ahead of the weekend game against Liverpool, Lampard revealed that Hudson-Odoi and James could make their maiden first-team appearances of the season when the Blues entertain Grimsby in a Cup tie on September 25.
“No, Rudiger is not fit but we have got Callum and Reece James playing in the Under-23s tomorrow. We have a game in the week that they can certainly play a part in for the Carabao Cup [against Grimsby Town].” he told.
Both Hudson-Odoi and James featured for the Blues’ Under 23 against Southampton on Saturday afternoon and they lasted for 76 minutes on the playing field.
Hudson-Odoi, who has recently penned a long-term deal with the club, scored the opening goal of the Premier League 2 contest which the development squad won by a 2-0 score.
