Chelsea FC are reportedly looking into a potential replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta, who has been poor with his performances at right-back this season.
The west London giants are not permitted to make any signings until next summer due to a year-long transfer ban but they are hopeful of winning an appeal at the CAS such that their embargo is shortened by six months.
In this case, they would be permitted to make signings at the turn of the year and Football.London via Caught Offside claims that the club are looking into a couple of options, who could replace Azpilicueta.
While the Blues have a young and exciting back-up option in the form of Reece James, it seems that the club may still seek to secure an experienced recruit, if they are permitted to make signings in January.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Thomas Meunier and Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto have been revealed as the potential options to strengthen the right-back spot and the former could be available on the cheap with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Azpilicueta has experienced a significant dip in terms of his performances this term and there have been a section of the Blues fans urging Frank Lampard to offer James with his debut.
James has been recovering from an ankle problem over the past few months but he is expected to feature for the Blues in some form in September after returning to regular training.
