Arsenal emerge as shock contenders to sign four-time Champions League winner

Arsenal have reportedly emerged as surprise candidates to secure the signature of Marcelo from Real Madrid during the ongoing transfer window.

The Brazil international has racked close to 500 appearances for Los Blancos between 2007 and 2019, but his future has come under question after the club’s signing of Ferland Mendy from Lyon.

According to Sport, the Gunners are among four clubs to have enquired over the availability of Marcelo, who has won four Champions League titles with the Madrid giants.

Aside from the Gunners, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and AC Milan are said to be in the hunt and the former two could hold the advantage with Champions League football and a lucrative salary package up for grabs.

The north London giants are on the search for a new left-sided defender and they have so far failed in their attempt to lure Kieran Tierney from the ranks of Celtic.

Sead Kolasinac and Nacho Monreal are presently the recognised choices for the position but there have been doubts emanating over the future of the latter at the club.

Monreal currently has 12 months remaining on his deal with the Gunners and reports suggest that he could make the return to the Spanish La Liga on a cut-price deal.
