Slovenia international Jan Oblak is reportedly keen on making the move to Manchester United after falling out with Atletico Madrid over broken promises.
The 26-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world and he continued his good form during the recent campaign where he kept a league high 20 clean sheets.
According to ESPN, Oblak has decided to make way from the Madrid giants this summer with several regulars including Antoine Griezmann heading through the exit door.
It is added that both Paris Saint-Germain and United hold an interest in signing him but he would prefer a move to the latter, considering he has been a boyhood fan of the club.
Oblak currently has a €120m (£107m) buy-out clause on his contract and based on how Atletico do their business, United may have to come close to the valuation to land the player’s signature.
However, the deal is expected to be dependent on the future of United’s David de Gea, who has been in a contract standoff with the club over the past 12 months.
De Gea has shown no intention of penning a new extension beyond June 2020 and reports indicate that he could be shown the exit door rather than taking the risk of losing him for nothing next summer.
United could garner around £60m from De Gea’s potential departure this summer and it remains to be seen whether the club are prepared to top-up on the sum received to make the move for Oblak.
