Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira has revealed that Arsenal are in advanced discussions with Dalian Yifang to secure the services of Yannick Carrasco this summer.
The Belgian was heavily tipped to join the Gunners during the summer but a move failed to materialised with the Chinese Super League side reluctant to reduce on their asking price.
As such, the north London giants went on to recruit Denis Suarez from Barcelona instead but the move proved a disappointment with the midfielder managing just six substitute appearances in an injury-plagued loan stint.
In a tweet on his official Twitter account, Schira has revealed that the Gunners are back in for the signature of Carrasco and they hold a better chance of landing their target.
Carrasco has previously acknowledged that the Gunners were keen on pursuing him but the Chinese outfit were reluctant to part ways at a short notice before the beginning of the new league season.
However, that has not ended the winger’s ambition of making a European return and the Gunners seem to hold the advantage in landing him this summer with little competition for the moment.
Arsenal have lacked the presence of a genuine specialist for the wider role and Carrasco should provide a good upgrade on the likes of Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who have lacked the cutting edge in front of goal in the long run.
Carrasco, who is a former Champions League finalist with Atletico Madrid, has been in sparkling form for Dalian in the new season with seven goals and two assists from just 10 league appearances.
