Chelsea FC have confirmed that Ruben Loftus-Cheek has suffered an Achilles tendon rupture and he is expected to undergo a surgery to rectify for the problem.
The England international has been one of the Blues’ most consistent performers during the past couple of months, but he won’t be participating in the Europa League final against Arsenal after the long-term setback.
“Ruben Loftus-Cheek has seen a specialist today (Thursday) and will have surgery on his ruptured Achilles’ tendon this evening,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
Chelsea are already without Antonio Rudiger and Callum Hudson-Odoi with season-ending injuries and the absence of Loftus-Cheek has further weakened their squad ahead of the much-anticipated Europa League final.
Nonetheless, there are positives from the fact that N’Golo Kante could recover from his hamstring problem but that continues to remain a 50/50 probability at the moment.
Chelsea are currently with just three fit central midfielders in the form of Jorginho, Ross Barkley and Mateo Kovacic. Ethan Ampadu is another in the treatment room while Danny Drinkwater remains out-of-favour.
