‘A hero and legend at Anfield,’ Liverpool fans react to 28-year-old’s fantastic performance against Barcelona

A section of the Liverpool supporter have heaped praise on the performance of Georginio Wijnaldum during the Reds’ stunning comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final stage.

The Reds were 3-0 down after the first leg on the road but they managed to redeem themselves with a stellar turnaround at Anfield, where they found the scoresheet on four separate occasions.

Out of those, Wijnaldum scored two of them shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute and the supporters have appreciated the Dutchman’s efforts following the game.

Wijnaldum was surprisingly ousted from the starting lineup for the encounter but an injury to Andrew Robertson right at the half-time interval permitted his entry onto the field.

With the Dutchman quick-fire double between the 54th and 56th minute, the Reds had the impetus to finish the tie and they managed to eventually do so with Divock Origi, who likewise bagged a brace on the night.

Liverpool are scheduled to face either Tottenham Hotspur or Ajax in the final of the elite competition but they are sure to start as the overwhelming favourites after the current display with key players missing on the field.
