Chelsea are reportedly considering a shock attempt to reacquire the services of Nathan Ake from fellow Premier League side Bournemouth.
The Dutch defender was offloaded from the club’s ranks in the summer of 2017 after the board deemed that the 23-year-old had no future under ex-boss Antonio Conte.
However, the Netherlands international has since transformed into one of the league’s most-consistent defenders and it appears that his progress has caught the Blues’ radar.
According to The Sun, the Blues are considering the option of triggering the £40m buy-back clause available on the player’s contract amid the uncertainty regarding the futures of David Luiz and Gary Cahill.
Luiz has been a hugely crucial figure at the heart of the defence under Maurizio Sarri but his position remain uncertain beyond the summer when his contract expires.
The same is the case with skipper Gary Cahill, although the Englishman could be permitted to leave the Blues in advance, should the club recruit a suitable replacement.
