Jose Mourinho explains when Sarri-ball will really work at former club Chelsea

Former Manchester United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes the Blues hierarchy must remain patient with Maurizio Sarri as he looks to build a revolution of his own.

The Italian’s future was questioned following a string of away league defeats last month but that has been partly resolved with the club’s return to winning ways of late.

Speaking to BEIN Sports, Mourinho has highlighted that it is not easy for any head coach to adapt to the Premier League style of play and Sarri probably requires a second season to prove his mettle.

“The Premier League is the kind of country where you have to lose a bit your identity to try to adapt to the characteristics of the game and the characteristics of the opponents. He will learn with time. I believe the second season will be better for him,” he said.

Sarri continues to command the confidence of the board despite the mixed run of performances this term but there are suggestions that he could be sacked, should the Blues miss out on the top four.

The west London side are currently two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with a game in hand and based on this, it can be said that they are on course to achieve their target.

However, the consistency has been something which has been lacking with the team and crucial away games at Manchester United and Liverpool next month may decide their Champions League fate.

Chelsea could, however, qualify for the elite competition by winning the Europa League but that remains far from the club’s priority for the moment, given they are yet to progress beyond the round of 16 stage.
