Chelsea are working on a deal to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano claims.
The Blues have identified the Frenchman as their prime central defensive target.
They attempted to sign him for €35m plus Kurt Zouma earlier this summer, but the offer was rejected.
Sevilla made it clear that they want a straight-cash deal for their prized asset.
The Blues have since sanctioned the sales of Tammy Abraham, Ike Ugbo and Davide Zappacosta.
They are currently on the verge of selling Kurt Zouma to West Ham United.
Following Zouma’s exit, the European champions are expected to make a fresh move for Kounde.
Kounde has a €90m release clause on his current contract, but Sevilla could accept a lesser fee up front.
The La Liga outfit could be convinced to sell for a reported fee between €65m-70m.
The Blues have made just one marquee signing this summer in Romelu Lukaku for €115m.
They are set for an exciting end to the transfer window with potentially two big-name buys.
Aside from Kounde, they have their sights on landing Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid.
They have proposed to land the Spaniard on loan with an option to buy.
