Chelsea have confirmed the much anticipated transfer of Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus. The Argentine has joined the Blues on a temporary basis for the campaign but the Blues are deemed to have the option to extend the deal for another year with the option to purchase him outright.
Higuain was initially fancied to join the Blues during the 2018 summer transfer window but a move never materialised with the hierarchy showing little interest in the Argentine striker, who ended up joining AC Milan on loan.
However, things have since progressed quickly with the Blues in desperate need for a goalscoring marksman and this has eventually landed Higuain at the Bridge after his loan contract with the Rossoneri was terminated earlier in the week.
Higuain, who is a former World Cup finalist with Argentina, would no doubt provide the additional threat upfront with his excellent scoring record over the years but it will be interesting to see whether he can adapt to the Premier League from the off.
Meanwhile, the move has also reunited Higuain with Sarri, who had brought the best out of him at former club Napoli, and a replication of the same kind of form should enhance the Blues’ prospects of finishing in the top-four positions of the Premier League this term.
With Higuain’s arrival, Alvaro Morata’s stay with the Blues could be coming to an end with reports suggesting that he has already agreed terms with Atletico Madrid. The Spanish giants are planning to sign him on loan with the obligation to buy in five months’ time.
