Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Chelsea FC won’t be competing with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League crown this term.
The west London giants were not able to register new players during the summer due to the transfer ban and that has been a blessing in disguise with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham taking the opportunity to impress after multiple loan stints away from the club.
Still, there remains a defensive vulnerability which has been exposed during the opening phase of the season and Wenger believes the youthfulness of the squad may hamper the club’s prospects of challenging for the league title.
“Chelsea looks a bit young, not enough maturity up front and not enough maturity at the back,” he told BeIN Sports, as reported by Metro.
Chelsea FC have made a mixed start to the current season with just one win across all competitions. They are presently seven points off the top of the table and any further setbacks could mean that the club may have to focus on making the top four to secure Champions League qualification.
That also remains a challenge with the competition from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United while Leicester City and Everton are regarded as the dark horses to make the push for the Champions League spots this term.
