Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of announcing goalkeeper Markus Schubert as their first signing of this summer’s transfer window.
The 21-year-old has been plying his trade for German minnows Dynamo Dresden during his early career but he is free to choose his next club when his contract expires on June 31.
According to The Independent, the Gunners have yet to make an official announcement regarding the German’s arrival but a deal appears more or less done with the club already looking to the future of the keeper.
Schubert is said to have been identified as a long-term understudy to Bernd Leno between the sticks but for the first season, the club are said to have plans of loaning him out to a Championship-based side.
In this case, Emiliano Martinez or David Ospina could take up the back-up role to Leno next term depending on the circumstances during the next few weeks.
Martinez has previously suggested that he has been offered with the deputy role with Petr Cech’s retirement but reports suggest that Ospina could make a comeback, should Napoli decline the option to buy him permanently.
