Chelsea are actively searching for a new centre-back this summer, and it has recently been reported that Jules Kounde is their prime transfer target.
The club have already agreed personal terms with the Frenchman, but there remains a stumbling block in terms of the transfer package to be finalised.
The Blues recently proposed a part-exchange deal. They were willing to offer Kurt Zouma alongside €35 million to sign the France international.
The offer has been snubbed by the La Liga outfit. Sevilla are reluctant to let go of Kounde unless an offer is made nearer to the €80m release clause.
The club owe 20 per cent of the future sell-on fee to Bordeaux. They are in a good financial position after Bryan Gil’s sale, and don’t face the pressure to sell.
Chelsea are still continuing negotiations with the La Liga giants. They have the financial muscle to meet the price tag, but seem to be exploring a bargain deal.
The Blues have their sights on landing an elite striker as well, and that could be a reason behind their part-exchange proposal to sign Kounde this month.
