Chelsea have eventually made their first summer signing with Marcus Bettinelli joining them on a free transfer.
The goalkeeper was a free-agent after his release from Fulham on June 30. He has now penned a two-year deal.
Bettinelli was previously on the club’s radar in 2015, but he declined to accept the deputy role.
Six years on, he has accepted a similar proposal from the west London giants.
He will fill the void left by Willy Caballero, who was the third-choice goalkeeper for the past few seasons.
Bettinelli’s arrival could be the beginning of several signings for the Blues ahead of the new campaign.
They are presently in advanced negotiations to land Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde.
The Frenchman is valued at around 60 million euros, but the Blues plan to negotiate a part-exchange deal.
Kurt Zouma could move in the opposite direction in a player-plus-cash move worth 35 million euros.
