Chelsea FC are reportedly planning a surprise approach to sign Denis Suarez this summer despite the Spaniard’s unsuccessful loan spell with Premier League rivals Arsenal.
According to Diario Sport, the west London giants could make a potential swoop for Suarez this summer, should Maurizio Sarri continue to remain the club’s head coach.
The same publication suggests that Sarri has admired the midfielder from his days at Napoli and he is keen to work with the Spaniard at the Bridge next season.
Suarez recently spent time on loan with the Gunners from Barcelona but his spell was frustrating with just six substitute appearances across all competitions.
Moreover, he happened to pick up a groin problem during his stint and that meant that the north London side permitted him to return to Catalonia to undergo further treatment for the season.
Despite this, the Gunners can pursue him for around £18.5m in the summer, but they are likely to bypass the option with the midfielder’s struggles to adapt to the Premier League.
In such a situation, Sarri’s interest in Suarez comes as a surprise but any move may be dependent on whether the Blues can overcome their transfer embargo through an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
