Arsenal manager Unai Emery has reportedly stepped up the club’s pursuit of Ever Banega, who is currently in the ranks of Spanish heavyweights Sevilla.
The Argentine had been heavily linked with a reunion with Emery during the summer but he knocked back the advances to remain in Seville with the prospect of signing a new deal.
However, that does not seem like happening with contract talks said to have reached an impasse and according to TalkSPORT, the Gunners may seek to capitalise on this situation.
It is added that the Gunners could pursue him for a reduced fee of around £18m which is supposedly considered as the release clause written into his current contract.
Banega has been highlighted by many sources as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who is widely expected to leave the club on a free transfer next summer.
Still, they are both different brand of players with the Argentine tending to occupying more defensive-minded positions while making more interceptions and tackles than the Gunners ace.
Nonetheless, the 30-year-old would fit right into the scheme of things, having featured in a three-man midfield at Seville while his commitment may not come into question after previously working under Emery.
The Argentine footballer has previously featured under the manager at both Valencia and Sevilla and during their time together at the latter, the midfielder credited Emery for developing him into a better player.
Banega, who rejoined Sevilla from Inter Milan in the summer of 2017, has just 18 months remaining on his existing deal. He has been in impressive form this term with seven goals and three assists in all competitons.
