A section of the Chelsea supporters have slammed the performance of Emerson during the club’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Blues started the game as the better side and they took the lead through N’Golo Kante after just 21 minutes. However, they were soon pegged back by two goals within the space of 16 minutes.
The left side of the Blues’ defence was undoubtedly the weak point which was exploited by the Cityzens and Emerson was largely responsible for both goals conceded.
More importantly, he was beaten all ends up by Riyad Mahrez’s trickery in the lead-up to the second goal and that has certainly frustrated a number of the Blues’ faithful.
Here are some of the reactions:
Emerson has got the regular nod over Marcos Alonso of late due to his effectiveness in the defensive side of his game but he certainly looked off-colour at the Etihad Stadium.
The Italy international was barely a threat for the Blues in an attacking point of view and his decision-making was poor in one particular situation where he needed to provide a simple cross for Tammy Abraham rather than striking at goal on his own.
The Blues looked much assured after his substitution at the hour mark where Cesar Azpilicueta slotted into the left back role and that could be the way forward, particularly with Reece James showing promising signs on the right side of the backline.
