Unai Emery reveals whether Alexandre Lacazette will start against Sheffield United

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has provided an update on the fitness of Alexandre Lacazette ahead of the Premier League meeting versus Sheffield United on Monday night.

The Frenchman has not featured for the Gunners since the north London derby in August and over the past seven weeks, he has been nursing an ankle problem.

However, he has returned to training in the lead up to the Blades clash and Emery has stated that the striker’s involvement may depend on a late fitness test before the Monday night showdown.

The Spaniard added that Lacazette may be assured with a place in the matchday squad but he is unclear regarding the number of minutes he could last on the playing field.

“It’s positive for us that he’s started training and that he’s a possibility for Monday. I don’t know whether he’s ready for 90 minutes or on the bench. We’ll decide that over the next days, but it’s very important for him to come back to training with us,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

Unai Emery has generally been hesitant to start players, who have just returned from injury setbacks and Lacazette may have to contend with a bench role for the weekend with the possibility of starting in the midweek Europa League game.

Still, the Gunners have no concerns with the attacking options, particularly with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli taking their opportunities to impress in the absence of the former Lyon man.
