Eight Manchester United players out with injuries ahead of Arsenal clash

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed a lengthy list of absentees through injury ahead of the Premier League encounter against Arsenal on Monday night.

The Red Devils are already without Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah due to their long-term knee injuries but they seem to have been joined in the treatment room by six more first-team stars.

Speaking ahead of the Arsenal game, Solskjaer confirmed that Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones, and the latter won’t return until after the international break.

In addition to those players, Diogo Dalot and Angel Gomes are certain to miss the upcoming league contest with Solskjaer confirming earlier in the week that they won’t return until the Europa League clash against Alkmaar next Thursday.

United go into the Monday night game after a frustrating League Cup tie against Rochdale. The Red Devils produced a below-par attacking performance in the third round and they eventually scraped through via a penalty shoot-out after the scores were level at 1-1 in regular time.

They can’t afford to repeat a similar performance against the Gunners, who come off morale-boosting triumphs over Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa – the latter involving a comeback win in the league from 2-1 down with 10 men.

Manchester United have the upper hand over the Gunners at Old Trafford with not a single league defeat since 2006 but records won’t mean anything when the sides take to the pitch in Gameweek 7.
