Manchester United move to agree deal for £53m-rated La Liga star

Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Barcelona regarding a potential deal for Samuel Umtiti as they seek to rebuild their defence further this summer.

The Red Devils have been on the look out for potential targets to strengthen the backline and they are currently on the cusp of landing Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.

According to The Mail, the Red Devils have made an initial enquiry to the Blaugrana regarding the availability of Umtiti, who has been a long-term target for the club.

The same outlet claims that the Spanish champions are desperately aiming to pursue Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax this summer and that could pave the way for Umtiti’s departure to balance the books.

Umtiti has never openly spoken about the idea of leaving the Catalan giants this summer but a report from L’Equipe has previously claimed that the Blaugrana would be willing to sanction his sale for around £53m.

The France international has also been linked with Premier League rivals Arsenal but they may not be able to compete with United, given their limited transfer budget for the summer.
