Chelsea plotting £40m bid for highly-rated Dutch international

Premier League side Chelsea are reportedly looking into the prospect of buying back Nathan Ake from Bournemouth. The Netherlands international was offloaded from the club’s ranks on a permanent basis in the summer of 2017 and he has since been a regular at the heart of the Cherries defence where he has impressed.

According to The Mirror, the Cherries are increasingly resigned to losing the Dutch defender by the summer with the Blues prepared to trigger the buy option available to them.

The Cherries had recruited Ake from west London for a £20m sum 18 months ago and reports indicate that the Blues can re-sign him for twice the figure at any point of time.

Chelsea are currently with four senior central defenders in Antonio Rudiger, David Luiz, Andreas Christensen and Gary Cahill in their ranks but the latter is expected to make way before the current transfer deadline.

Cahill has been regularly excluded from matchday squads since the turn of the year and there are suggestions that he could be afforded a cut-price move elsewhere with his contract expiring in six months’ time.
