The father of Lucas Torreira has reportedly confirmed that his son will be heading to the Emirates Stadium during the summer transfer window. Arsenal have been in regular contact with Sampdoria regarding the Uruguay international and the player’s father has now revealed that the midfielder will have a medical with the Gunners following the summer World Cup.
“I want the best for my son and I also know that Arsenal showed a lot of interest in him,” he told Radio Crc, as reported by Football Italia. “There was no problem in the negotiations, and the latest is that as soon as the World Cup ends, he’ll go to London for a medical.”
Torreira could not earn a start for Uruguay during the opening two group stage games of the World Cup but he got his opportunity versus the Russians where he put in a strong shift. As such, he managed to convince Oscar Tabarez in the round of 16 game against Portugal where he made a couple of crucial blocks to deny the European champions.
Uruguay are now into the quarter-final of the World Cup where they are scheduled to play France and Torreira’s potential switch to the Emirates may be delayed depending on the progress of the South American nation at the tournament.
