FA Cup holders Chelsea have reportedly received a transfer boost in signing midfielder Jean Michael Seri after he withdrew from Nice’s pre-season training camp. The Ivory Coast international has been linked with a potential exit from Allianz Riviera in the past few weeks with his existing deal due to expire at the end of next season.
According to Sky Sports News, the likes of Chelsea and Fulham could be in the running for the 26-year-old after he decided against travelling with his Nice teammates for the pre-season camp. Seri presently has a £35m release clause written into his contract which expires on July 15 and he is said to have the preference of making the switch to the Premier League.
The midfielder dubbed the ‘African Xavi’ had attracted interest from Barcelona during the last summer transfer window but the move was scuppered amid their decision to sign Paulinho from Guangzhou Evergrande instead.
Chelsea are currently in a predicament with their delay in recruiting Maurizio Sarri as their next head coach but they remain optimistic that a deal could be struck before they face Perth Glory in their opening pre-season game.
