FA Cup holders Chelsea are reportedly pondering over a move for Roma’s Stephan El Shaarawy as they seek to bolster their forward ranks for next season. The Italy international has not quite lived to his early hype at AC Milan but he has nevertheless had an admirer in the form of Maurizio Sarri.
According to Calciomercato, the incoming Blues boss Maurizio Sarri remains a huge fan of the 25-year-old and had previously tried to sign the frontman during his time at Napoli.
El Shaarawy has reached double figures in terms of scoring in just two seasons since making his competitive debut nearly a decade ago but during this period, he has produced many match-defining performances.
One of those indeed came against Chelsea in the Champions League group stage last season where he scored a brace for the Giallorossi in a comfortable 3-0 triumph at the Stadio Olimpico.
Chelsea are yet to make a formal approach for the unwanted Roma star but the next few days could give a fair reflection on which players could pursue during the final month of the transfer window.
The managerial saga has pretty much delayed the club’s transfer proceedings by a month and there is still plenty of time to lure targets as they seek to revive their top-four and title prospects next term.
