Turkey international Çağlar Söyüncü has confirmed that Arsenal are interested in securing his signature during this summer’s transfer window. The Gunners have been closely monitoring the defender’s progress over the past six months and the centre-back has now confessed that there could be the possibility of a summer switch.
In a report covered by Onefootball, he said: “Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England. I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalised yet about my transfer. After the national team camp we’ll have talks.”
The Gunners are expected to pursue a couple of central defenders during the summer transfer window and Söyüncü has been earmarked as a probable option by head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.
Söyüncü is widely regarded as one of the most promising young centre-backs in the Bundesliga over the past couple of seasons and his play could be familiarised with Gunners winter signing Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Similarly to the Greek, Söyüncü prefers to pressurise strikers during crunch situations and he has earned the reputation of being a fiery defender who does not think twice before making an interception.
Nevertheless, Arsenal still need to finalise a transfer sum with Freiburg, who are supposedly holding out for at least €35m in order to part ways with the central defender. He is currently under contract until June 2021.
