Chelsea are reported to have held talks with the representative of Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri ahead of a potential approach for his signature during the summer. The 59-year-old is currently vying for the Serie A crown with the Naples outfit who are currently just a point behind reigning champions Juventus.
According to Rai Sport, the Blues have Sarri as one among the top names for the managerial vacancy once Antonio Conte is dismissed from his head coach role during the summer. Luis Enrique is undoubtedly the first choice on the list but there are doubts over his appointment considering his wage demands.
The Spaniard is said to want an annual package of more than £9m a year and this has proved a stumbling block considering Arsenal’s head of relations Raul Sanllehi is understood to have already held talks with the former Barcelona man.
As such Sarri has emerged as the prime contender for the Chelsea job and the club could extend their interest further should the experienced head coach guide Napoli to a Serie A triumph. The Naples-based club are regarded favourites to clinch the Scudetto with Juventus facing tough trips to Roma and Inter before the close of the campaign.
