Manchester United have reportedly earmarked Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon as the ideal replacement for Luke Shaw, come the end of the season. The 17-year-old has been in sparkling form for the Cottagers this term, and he was recently named as the EFL’s Player of the Year for the 2017/18 season.
According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho has sent his scouting team to keep a close watch on the teenager, who has been tipped by some to make England’s squad for the 2018 World Cup.
Sessegnon, who has previously attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur, started the season as a regular in the left-back position, but as the season has gone on, he has played in a left-wing role, which has brought the best of his abilities.
Nevertheless, United appear to have identified him as the probable successor to Ashley Young in the left-back role, and this could potentially spell an end to Luke Shaw’s association with the Mancunian giants.
Sessegnon, who is currently valued at around £40m, has been influential to the Cottagers’ promotion push this term, with 14 goals and a further five assists. He has already represented England at the Under-17 and Under-19 levels, and most-recently received his maiden call-up for the Under-21s.
