Napoli midfielder Jorginho has admitted that he would fancy plying his trade in the Premier League amid the interest from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool. The Italy international has been influential towards Napoli’s push for the Serie A crown this term, and his performances have supposedly made him a transfer target for elite European clubs.
Speaking after Italy’s 1-1 draw against England earlier this week, Jorginho was quizzed about the possibility of pursuing a Premier League, and he replied in the affirmative, saying: “I think the Premier League suits my game, but it also depends on who I have next to me because I need to be surrounded by players with certain characteristics.”
Both Liverpool and United have monitored the midfielder’s progress over the past nine months, and the latter are likely to be more desperate for the enforcer, given they are expected to lose Michael Carrick through retirement whilst the futures of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera remain in doubt beyond the summer.
In comparison, the Reds may lose the services of Emre Can on a free during the summer, but they have his possible void covered with their pre-contract agreement for Leipzig’s Naby Keita. Keita and Jorginho have similar qualities in terms of their passing attributes, and Liverpool may not necessarily require another midfield recruit in their ranks.
