Chelsea are reportedly on the cusp of sealing an agreement with Luis Enrique. The former Barcelona coach has been regularly linked with the Blues job, and the 47-year-old now appears in the front seat to succeed Antonio Conte.
According to Le Parisien, the west London outfit are favourites to appoint Enrique as their next head coach with Paris Saint-Germain having dropped their interest. The Ligue 1 leaders had initially planned to discuss Enrique’s chances of replacing Unai Emery at the helm, but they have given up on their pursuit after knowing that the Blues are in advanced negotiations with the Spaniard.
Conte has repeatedly suggested that he has no plans of quitting from the Blues job, but owner Roman Abramovich is likely to wield the axe, regardless of the club’s performance in the FA Cup. The Blues have tended in the Premier League in every other season, and this has quite been the case this year with the club far from competing for the English crown.
The Blues are currently 25 points behind leaders Manchester City, who are certain to lift the title this term, but there are now concerns whether the club can finish in the top-four of the Premier League. The club are presently five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, whom they are due to face, following the international break.
