Chelsea are reportedly close to pursuing the signature of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud in a deal which could cost £18m. The move is likely to be trigger Michy Batshuayi’s proposed loan move to Borussia Dortmund before the transfer deadline.
According to The Telegraph, the 31-year-old is growingly closer to making a switch across London with Aubameyang having already arrived at the Gunners’ training ground for a medical.
Aubameyang’s tests are likely to be prolonged until the early hours of Wednesday, but the deal looks likely to go through with the Gunners prepared to sell Giroud to the Blues in what could be considered as a potential bargain.
The Frenchman has been a fan favourite at Arsenal over the years, but he is well aware that the arrival of Aubameyang could hamper his gametime further, whilst also putting doubts on his World Cup spot.
Giroud is likely to serve the role of a ‘tall target man’ provided the deal goes through, and this will allow Batshuayi to pursue a temporary switch to Dortmund, who will in-line give the go-ahead to Aubameyang to pen a long-term contract with the Gunners.
