Arsenal are reportedly growing confidence of committing midfielder Mesut Ozil to a new long-term deal. The Germany international has just seven months left on his existing deal at the Emirates.
According to The Sun, the Gunners have received a fresh boost in contractual negotiations with Ozil, and they are ‘very very close’ to finalising terms of a new contract.
The World Cup winner has been recently linked with a potential move to Old Trafford, but the ongoing talks are likely to emerge a bitter blow for Jose Mourinho, who is said to eye a reunion with the former Real Madrid man.
Ozil, who is currently on a weekly wage of £140,000, is likely to demand a significant wage hike alongside a huge signing-on fee in order to prolong his Gunners stay beyond the summer.
Despite the positivity, The Sun suggests that the Gunners are also preparing for the worst circumstance, should Ozil snub the opportunity of an extension with the FA Cup holders.
A fee of around £15m-20m could see his potential sale in the New Year, but Arsene Wenger is determined to ward off any interest from direct competitors including Manchester United.
