Chelsea are looking more likely to end their association with David Luiz, who could pursue a fresh challenge during the winter transfer window. The Brazil international is alleged to have had a bust-up with manager Antonio Conte earlier in November, and he has since failed to make a league appearance for the Blues.
Real Madrid have already been credited with a January move for the Brazil international, but according to Don Balon, Luiz could find himself plying his trade with Barcelona, who are eyeing a replacement for the injured Samuel Umtiti.
The Frenchman is facing at least eight weeks out with a hamstring problem, and this leaves Ernesto Valverde with just two senior options in Gerard Pique and Thomas Vermaelen with Javier Mascherano nursing an injury of his own.
As per Don Balon, the Catalan giants could propose to take Luiz on a short-term loan for the campaign with a view to recruiting two rising stars over the summer. The deal could benefit Luiz with regular first-team football in the lead-up to next summer’s World Cup, although the Blues may favour the permanent exit of the versatile defender.
Luiz has not been part of Chelsea’s matchday squad in the past two league games as he continues to nurse a knee issue which he has suffered from since the crunching tackle from Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero last term.
