Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has revealed that Arsenal have pulled out of their pursuit of Thomas Lemar as they do not have sufficient time to finalise a club-record £92m move.
As a result, contract Alexis Sanchez is likely to stay put at the Emirates with Manchester City unlikely to increase on their previous offer of £55m plus add-ons to tempt the Gunners.
Lemar has been identified as the prime option to bolster the wide positions, but his involvement in the crunch World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands has seemingly ended the club’s interest. The attacker is also said to have second thoughts over the transfer following the Gunners’ 4-0 thumping at the hands of Liverpool last weekend.
“As it stands, Arsenal pull out of Lemar negotiations. So Alexis, much to his pain, stays. Will there be more twists? #DeadlineDay.” Balague tweeted h/t The Express.
The other good news will come from the fact that Liverpool are not interested in the former Caen man, and the Gunners could probably revive their interest in the Frenchman in January.
