Thomas Lemar has been made as the main priority for Arsenal, according to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth. Arsenal have been chasing the 21-year-old for the last few weeks, and are even prepared to pay around £45 million for the player winger. Yet, Monaco are reluctant to let the player leave after having lost several key players this summer. Lemar has been at Monaco since 2015 after making a €4 million switch from SM Caen.
Like much of the Monaco team that managed to win the league title and reach the Champions League semi-final last season, Lemar is young and pacey. These have been attributes which have appealed to manager Arsene Wenger for a long time (Oh! He is a French international).
Even though Monaco have repeatedly stated about in their reluctance to sell the 21-year-old, Arsenal have been steadfastly going after his signature. According to Daily Star, Sheth said: “Arsenal remain interested in the Monaco winger despite Monaco’s insistence the player is not for sale. Now it still could be pretty busy at Arsenal with regard to big name arrivals at the Emirates.”
The latest bid of £40 million is unlikely to tempt Monaco to a sale, especially after having just sold Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernardo Silva for similar or slightly higher fees. Monaco would want Lemar to fetch a fee in excess of £50 million. Arsenal have brought in Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac as the key signings over the summer.
