Premier League holders Chelsea will be looking to start their season on a high with a victory over arch rivals Arsenal in the Community Shield. The competition has lost some of its flair in the past few years, but there is nothing like winning some sort of silverware or be it a Shield prior to the start of the league season.
Belgium international Thibaut Courtois is a definite starter in goal, although Willy Caballero could be favoured for the Cup competitions during the upcoming season.
The defence is likely to remain unchanged with Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill taking up the centre-back duties as usual. Since the Shield is regarded as a form of a friendly, Victor Moses is free to play, but he will serve a one-game suspension in the Premier League opener. Moses will take up the right wing-back spot with Marcos Alonso in the opposite direction.
The Blues midfield currently does not have any backup option to rely upon. Cesc Fabregas and N’Golo Kante are definite starters in the centre of the park where they will have to keep a close watch on Aaron Ramsey, who was left so often to trouble the defence.
Conte will have a different front line to that he is more accustomed to. Eden Hazard is still in light training as he recovers from an ankle problem whilst Diego Costa has no future at Stamford Bridge.
Taking this into regard, we could see a couple of bench regulars from last season with Willian and Michy Batshuayi set to participate. Pedro is likely to operate on the right side of the attack with a protective mask with Willian on the left, whilst Batshuayi could get the nod over summer signing Alvaro Morata, who will need some time to adapt to the formation.
