Manchester United are reportedly on the front foot to sign James Rodriguez ahead of close rivals Chelsea this summer. The Colombia international is keen to work alongside Jose Mourinho after having received limited gametime over the past 18 months at Real Madrid.
According to The Express, United could hold an advantage over the Blues once more with Rodriguez wanting a way out of the Bernabeu. The Premier League holders have yet to make an outfield signing this summer, and their recent attempt turned into failure after the Red Devils hijacked their move for Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku, 24, has been training with close mate Paul Pogba in Los Angeles, and he is due to complete all formalities in the same place before linking up with his new United team-mates for pre-season.
Meanwhile, Los Blancos remain desperate to sign Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe ahead of the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, and for this, they must first offload Rodriguez to partly balance their books.
Rodriguez was restricted to just 13 league games for the Spanish champions last term while also being excluded from the matchday squad for the Champions League final triumph over Juventus last month.
