Not Lukaku, Jose Mourinho has set his sights on hijacking deal for top Chelsea target

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly fancies pulling off a surprise deal for Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer. Chelsea were earlier deemed favourites to sign the France international, but it now appears that the deal has reached a standstill.

According to The Sun, the Principality outfit are frustrated with the lack of intent from the Premier League holders, and this could put United in the pole position to land the midfield enforcer.

Mourinho was initially keen on a reunion with Blues ace Nemanja Matic, but that deal is unlikely to happen after United hijacked a move to Everton’s Romelu Lukaku amid the frustration of Antonio Conte.

Bakayoko has already said his farewell to the French champions, and Leonardo Jardim’s side want a quick sale in order to concentrate on their recruitment for the summer transfer window.

The former Rennes man provided a commanding presence at Stade Louis II last term, and his performances helped Monaco achieve a long-awaited league success while also reaching the final four of the Champions League.

He earned his international debut for France in the injury absence of Paul Pogba earlier in the year, but Mourinho could potentially see the two together at Old Trafford as he plans to pose a strong Premier League challenge next term.
