Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will shift his attention towards Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier as he looks to bolster his central midfield department in the transfer window.
The England international was initially the subject of a £50m approach from the Red Devils, and according to The Mirror, United could return with a fresh £60m attempt to pursue the midfield enforcer.
Dier has been a regular for the north London giants in the back three over the past year or so, and a move to Old Trafford would help him cement his place at the heart of the midfield where he could take over the role occupied by Michael Carrick.
However, the deal is unlikely to be straightforward with Spurs reluctant to lose any of their star performers as they try again to lift the English crown, which they have come close to in recent years.
The former Sporting man currently earns a weekly package of £70,000, and he stands the chance of at least doubling his salary, should he be allowed to link up with the Mancunian giants in the summer.
