Manchester United have agreed on a £75m sum with Everton to sign reported Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku this summer. The Belgium international has been longing for a move to a Champions-based club, and it appears that he is on the cusp of joining the Old Trafford outfit.
According to BBC Sport, Jose Mourinho’s side have acted first to pursue the former Blues striker after having agreed on a £75m fee for his services.
Blues boss Antonio Conte has also expressed an interest in Lukaku, but their delay in offloading Diego Costa has come to hurt them in the player’s pursuit.
Lukaku is due to link up with United in a separate deal which won’t involve Wayne Rooney, who is keen on a Merseyside comeback this month.
Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata had been the first-choice to bolster the United frontline, but Los Blancos’ hefty £78m valuation has urged them to sanction a move for Lukaku.
The Belgian has come off a bright season with Everton where he bagged 26 goals, and he will now get the chance to join the Red Devils, who are managed by ex-coach Mourinho.
Lukaku failed to make much of an impression under the Special One at Chelsea, but the pair are likely to put their differences aside as they look to work together next season.
Mourinho is eager to finalise the deal before the club travel for their pre-season tour of the United States, and this could see Lukaku undergo a medical in the next 24 hours.
