Strongest Man United lineup to face Anderlecht, De Gea out

Manchester United will seek to gain a significant advantage in the Europa League quarter-final when they take on Anderlecht in the first leg away from home.

The Red Devils are currently just outside of the top-four positions in their domestic division, and this makes the Europa League all so important as winning it would guarantee qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Formation: 4-3-2-1

Sergio Romero is a guaranteed starter between the sticks with David de Gea being left out due to a minor hip problem.

The defence is likely to see a minor change from the weekend with Matteo Darmian likely to be replaced with Antonio Valencia, who has been rested for the previous two outings.

Other than that, Eric Bailly and Marcus Rojo will take up the central defensive positions with Luke Shaw occupying the left side of the defence.

Moving forward, Ander Herrera has been the most consistent performer for United during the ongoing campaign, and he will slot into central midfield alongside Marouane Fellaini, who could regain the captaincy on the night.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has not looked in the best of form over the past couple of months, but nevertheless, he is United’s best option on the right side of the attack.

With Wayne Rooney out of the travelling squad, Marcus Rashford will field on the left wing with Paul Pogba settling in the advanced number ’10’ role behind the main striker.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been simply sublime for the Red Devils despite his trailing age. With 28 goals across all competitions, the Big Swede could be expected to add a goal or two to his tally, should he click on the night.
