Premier League giants Chelsea could find themselves busy in the summer transfer market with Barcelona seemingly plotting a raid on three of their first-team players.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the Catalan giants were keeping a close eye on trio Cesar Azplicueta, Nemanja Matic and Marcos Alonso during the Blues’ 2-1 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium.
The west London giants have transformed into genuine title favourites this season following a mediocre campaign last term, and much of the credit has to go to Antonio Conte whose 3-4-3 formation has done wonders.
Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez and scout Urbano Ortega had been closely monitoring the Blues trio on Monday night, and it appears that the club will seek to bolster both the defensive and midfield department in the summer.
Marcos Alonso arrived with his critics at Stamford Bridge last summer, but he has since transformed into a key player for the Blues after having made the left wing-back position his own.
The Catalans currently have the likes of Jordi Alba and Lucas Digne on the left side of the defence, but there is still the need for further competition with Barcelona on occasions deploying a 3-4-3 formation.
Cesar Azpilicueta, on the other hand, has the versatility to feature across the defence and Barca see him as a potential candidate to take over the right-back role from the young Sergi Roberto.
Summer recruit Andre Gomes has produced a mixed performance in central midfield during his time at Camp Nou, and this has brought Nemanja Matic onto the radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has already set his sights on bolstering his star-studded squad for next season’s Champions League, and the club are unlikely to part ways with any irrespective of the transfer fee on the table.
