Chelsea are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of German international Marco Reus, as the club began to look at alternatives for Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian has struggled to settle at Stamford Bridge. He is yet to start a Premier League game, despite coming to Chelsea for a substantial £33 million from Marseille in the summer. The 23-year-old is widely expected to leave Chelsea – at least on a loan deal – in the summer with the likes of West Ham interested.
Reus has emerged as a top transfer target for Chelsea, who would also appreciate the 27-year-old’s ability to act as a proper replacement for Diego Costa.
Reus has been one of the most wanted strikers in world football over the years. Yet, he has chosen to stay loyal to Borussia Dortmund. The former Borussia Monchengladbach forward has been at Dortmund since 2012.
Over the years, several transfer rumours have linked him with a move to major European clubs. Chelsea are not alone in the pursuit of Reus, as Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to be interested. Both clubs are in desperate need of rejuvenating their forward line-ups, and will post tough competition to Chelsea’s pursuit. Reus’ contract runs out in the summer of 2019.
