Premier League giants Arsenal have apparently received a huge lift in the pursuit of Alexandre Lacazette after his agent admitted that he has made no contact with Atletico Madrid.
The France international has been continuously linked with a move to the Gunners, but recent speculation suggested that the deal could be scuppered due to interest from Atletico Madrid.
Atleti were speculated to have finalized personal terms with the Frenchman, who has been earmarked as the perfect partner to feature alongside Antoine Griezmann next season.
However, this appears to have been quickly dismissed by his representative David Beneditelli, who affirms that there is no communication line between him and Atleti.
“There has been no meeting with Atletico Madrid,” Beneditelli told Metro.
He added that the Spanish giants are not alone in the chase for the player, and there is further interest with Arsenal among other clubs also keen on pursuing the marksman’s signature.
“But there is no doubt that they like Alexandre and other top clubs like the Colchoneros [Atletico Madrid].”
Arsene Wenger’s side had a £28m-plus-offer turned down for Lacazette last summer, and they could be expected to revive their interest amid the uncertainty over the future of Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez has just over a year left on his existing contract, and he could be eyeing a fresh challenge this summer with the Gunners unwilling to match his £250,000 weekly wage demands.
Lacazette has already highlighted his desire to move abroad in the summer, and a fee ranging from £35m to £40m could be sufficient to lure him to north London.
