Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Chelsea will cash in on the services of midfielder Cesc Fabregas at the end of the campaign. The Spain international has lost his place in the Blues’ midfield this season with Antonio Conte opting to play N’Golo Kante alongside Nemanja Matic.
The World Cup winner has been yearning for regular playing time over the past couple of months, but Conte is now in a situation where he would not take a risk with the 29-year-old.
With just five league starts to his name this term, Fabregas is said to be assessing his future, and the Blues could be compelled to offload the midfielder with a view to offering him regular football elsewhere.
On the other hand, the former Arsenal man is on a hefty wage structure of £156,000-a-week, and his departure could provide the freedom to reinvest in a potential replacement.
“I think Chelsea will sell Fabregas,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Nearly every club in the world will be after him. He is still top-drawer and could walk into loads of teams in the Premier League.
“But if he was to leave it wouldn’t be because he’s not a good player.”
Fabregas has been long associated with a move to AC Milan while there is also said to be interest from Serie A rivals Inter Milan and Juventus.
The Spaniard is due to feature for the Blues in the FA Cup on Saturday where they make the visit to the Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Fifth Round.
