Crystal Palace are reportedly confident of signing defensive duo Carl Jenkinson and Patrick van Aanholt this month. Sam Allardyce has highlighted his intention to bolster his backline in the winter transfer window.
According to The Sun, Big Sam is in talks over a permanent £3m deal for Arsenal’s Jenkinson, who has been sparingly used at the Emirates this term.
The one-time England international spent a season-long loan under Allardyce at West Ham United (2014-15), and he will seek to use the association to his benefit. The Gunners are said to want more from their fringe player, and it is reported that the deal could eventually rise to around £6.5m.
Meanwhile, Patrick van Aanholt is the other on Big Sam’s focus. The Dutchman has been a key performer for Sunderland in recent seasons, and Allardyce is prepared to make a £7m raid on his former side, who are currently cash-strapped.
Crystal Palace are also said to be eyeing an ambitious swoop for Sunderland’s Jermaine Defoe, but a deal looks unlikely in the winter transfer window.
