Chelsea have reportedly tabled a formal bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu this month. The Turkey international has been closely watched by the Blues this season.
Turkish Football says the Premier League leaders have made an attempt to sign the Bundesliga footballer as they seek to fill the void left by midfielder Oscar.
Oscar, 25, left the Blues for Shanghai SIPG on a massive £60m deal earlier in the month, and this leaves Antonio Conte with plenty to spend in the winter market.
League rivals Manchester United have also been credited with interest for the Turk, and it is understood that any agreement is likely to be postponed until the end of the season.
Calhanoglu, 22, is eager to overturn the club’s poor league run in the second half of the campaign and this will urge him to stay put unless Bayer receive a tempting offer.
The former Hamburger SV ace has netted 26 goals in 109 outings for Bayer Leverkusen to date.
