West Ham United are looking to wrap up a winter deal for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling. The England international has recently returned to the first-team fold following a toe injury.
According to The Mail, the Hammers are in desperate search for reinforcements in the New Year, and this has urged them to consider a move for Smalling.
Smalling, 27, has appeared in just 12 appearances for the Red Devils this season, but nevertheless, Jose Mourinho would not entertain offers for his player in the January transfer window.
The former Fulham man took part during the final minutes of the 2-0 win against West Bromwich Albion last weekend, but he may still have to wait for a starting spot with Phil Jones and Marcus Rojo having settled at the heart of the defence.
Slaven Bilic’s side were recently snubbed in their loan approach for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, and it seems they could face yet another setback in the pursuit of a Manchester United player.
