Premier League side Liverpool are believed to be one among the five clubs deemed to be interested in signing Santos midfielder Thiago Maia. The teenager has captured interest from a number of European clubs following his impressive showing for Brazil at the summer Olympics.
Maia, 19, was a key player for the Brazilian side, which went without conceding a goal until the finals where they beat Germany in a penalty shoot-out to clinch their first-ever Olympic gold.
According to The Star, the Reds have joined the chase for the highly-rated footballer, who is said to be keen on testing himself in Europe.
Nevertheless, the Merseyside outfit will not have an easy route to Maia with Napoli, Zenit St. Petersburg, Lazio, and Monaco among other clubs interested in the player’s signature.
League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea were also linked with the Santos youngster last month, and the duo could yet revive their pursuit for the midfielder.
